Information about Cranbrook, British Columbia

Cranbrook BC is a small city nestled in a wide valley between the Rocky Mountain ranges in south-east British Columbia. We often hold the record for the most days of sunshine hours in Canada. Enjoy the whole range of mountains for high altitude hiking and walking in the forest, hunting, fishing and golfing at many small or larger championship courses, just minutes away. A fifteen minute drive from Cranbrook will find you at a number of lakes, rivers and streams, doing all water activities – swimming, boating, river rafting…..

With four distinct seasons, all winter sports are also available – cross country and downhill skiing at three local first-class ski hills – the closest is 20 minutes from home, or go snowmobiling, curling, or skating on our outdoor or indoor rinks, and of course swimming at Cranbrook’s Recreational Facility. We have two theatres that have wonderful live entertainment and many other artistic displays. Cranbrook also has one of the world’s most complete Railway Museums, the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel and you can enjoy a walk through history at Fort Steele Heritage Town, a twelve minute drive north of town. Perhaps you would enjoy an evening in the Casino - St. Eugene Mission Resort and Casino is just 10 minutes away for your entertainment pleasure.

There are a large number of city expansions and community developments within Cranbrook and in the surrounding areas of the city. We are the regional center of the East Kootenay Region, therefore we have the regional hospital, an international airport, all government services and the College of the Rockies campus and student services.

Gary Player, world renowned Golf Professional is only one of the developers designing Wildstone, a new 26 hole golf course with 500 units of supportive housing one mile north of Cranbrook.

Another golf and housing development is Shadow Mountain Resort.

Our community is growing and the city has expansion plans to accommodate people wishing to come to our area of the world, which as Gary Player said, has “Clean Air, Clean Water and Safety” something he feels is a very rare commodity in the world today.
